BI-WEEKLY REPORT - July 28, 2017
On Sunday July 23, 2017, community members gathered for the second day of the “Great American Little Town” Sand Volleyball Tournament at Galt Community Park. One of the match ups included two members of the police department, TJ Guidotti and Officer Mike Little, playing in a two on two volleyball tournament against Cosumnes Fire District. A great time was had by all.
On July 25, 2017, Chief Sockman represented the City of Galt and the Tonn Family at the San Francisco Giant's Law Enforcement Appreciation Night. San Francisco Giants hosted the event to honor fallen officers from Northern California and to never forget Officer Kevin Tonn and the 22 other fallen officers recognized in a ceremony before the game.
On Friday, July 28, 2017, Lieutenant Brian Kalinowski graduated from the Law Enforcement Command College. This was an 18 month program designed to prepare law enforcement leaders of today for the challenges of the future. The programs focuses on leadership principles, emerging issues, problem solving, proactive responses and preparing for the future.
National Night Out is Tuesday, August 1, 2017, 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm. National Night Out is an annual community building event promoting police and community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. The event will be held at three locations:
Westside Galt - Meadowview Park, 1128 Meadowview Drive.
Central Galt - Galt Library, 1000 Caroline Avenue.
Northeast Galt - Galt Community Park, 1000 Walnut Avenue.
The Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) has scheduled the Eastview Annexation request for public hearing on August 2, 2017, at 5:30 pm. The meeting will take place in the Board Chambers of the Sacramento County Administration Building, 700 H Street, Sacramento.
Galt Industrial Park Expansion Annexation
The Galt Industrial Park Expansion Annexation California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration is expected to be published for public review August 9, 2017 through September 8, 2017. The project is then projected to be brought to the Planning Commission in September 2017 and City Council in October 2017.
Walker Park Soccer Field Lights Project
The foundation for the new light poles is complete.
The site improvement plans have been approved. Underground utility work will soon start so please look out for traffic controls and potential detours during the course of work.
Stratton’s Pizzeria will soon be opening a new pizza restaurant at 330 S. Lincoln Way in the former Dollar Central location. The pizzeria expects final approval of their tenant improvement build-out next week and will hold a grand opening in August.
Rita’s Italian Ice has received final approval of a building permit for their new location in the Save Mart shopping center. The owners will be training employees in the next few weeks and plan to open sometime in August.
Matsuyama Sushi restaurant has submitted plans for a new sushi restaurant in the Raley’s shopping center, between Sally Beauty Supply and It’s a Grind Coffee House. An opening date has not been announced.
Schumacher Ceramics recently opened a ceramics and art studio at 232 S. Lincoln Way, Suite 100. The owners specialize in handmade sinks, tile, pottery and sculptures. The gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday, 11 am – 5 pm or by appointment.
Galt’s Old Town Diner recently relocated from C Street to the former Gary’s Deli location at 227 S. Lincoln Way.
PARKS AND RECREATION
The Galt Gators won the Northern California Swim League Championships that were held July 15-16. Several swimmers who qualified at the league championship are attending the Meet of Champions in Woodland July 29-30, 2017. The Gator Board is attempting to collect enough registration fees for the fall swim program to move forward.
Outside panel interviews for the Parks Maintenance Supervisor were held on July 27, 2017. Staff removed four broken dog waste stations on A Street and replaced with two new stations. Repaired sprinkler line breaks at the Sports Complex, Diamond 3; Galt Community Park and Meadowview Park. Removed broken wood swing set from Galt Community Park. Poured concrete footing for new Harvey Park sign which will be installed the first week in August.
