BI-WEEKLY REPORT - January 11, 2019
January 15 marks the 6th anniversary of the death of Officer Kevin Tonn. A Moment of Silence will be held at the intersection of F Street and Third Street at 11:37am, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Fallen Heroes Memorial located at City Hall, 380 Civic Drive, 12:00 pm. The public is encouraged to attend.
River Oaks 3C
Due to the weather, striping and marking of Marengo Road has been delayed. The contractor is pouring foundations for streetlights throughout River Oaks 3C.
During the storm on Sunday, January 6, a high voltage power line at the Wastewater Treatment Plant broke requiring the plant to operate on generators. SMUD restored the line on Tuesday Morning. A City utility power pole went down at the Elm and Amador lift station, emergency repairs have been made and SMUD has restored power to that line.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
At the January 10 Planning Commission meeting, Keith Jones was elected as the Planning Commission Chair and Mark Crews as Vice Chair. Mathew Pratton was elected to serve as the Planning Commission representative on the City’s Historic Preservation Advisory Committee. Commissioners Kevin Papineau, Mark Crews and Keith Jones, along with Community Development Director Chris Erias, will be attending the California League of Cities Planning Commissioners Academy in March. The Planning Commission also voted to extend the expiration date of the Vesting Tentative Subdivision Map for Fairway Oaks. The Planning Commission also received an update on City Planning projects.
Kurt Baumgartner was promoted to the position of Parks Maintenance Worker I (PT), effective December 24. Congratulations!
Joseph Pulizzi was hired to fill the position of Building Inspector, effective December 17. Welcome!
PARKS AND RECREATION
There are currently 520 participants registered for youth basketball. Games will begin January 12. Participants were split into three groups of 20. Emails were sent to participants to let them know what their scheduled clinic time will be. Pictures for 2nd – 8th grades are being distributed to the teams.
Registration for Youth T-Ball, Instructional and Girls Softball opened January 7.
Due to high winds and rain, four trees were lost at Walker Community Park and one at the MSC building. Staff has removed mistletoe from trees located in the Chabolla Community Center parking lot. Mistletoe takes away nutrients and water from the branch and causes the branch to eventually die.
