The City Manager's Update is a regular news briefing that is provided to the citizens of Galt. The Update includes important City news, updates on key initiatives and projects, and how the City is delivering services and responding to any concerns from our community.

BI-WEEKLY REPORT - August 23, 2019
The Galt Police Department has been approved to receive 24 doses of Naloxone through the California Department of Public Health. Naloxone, which is usually known as its brand name Narcan, is a medication used to block the effects of opioids. This will allow the department to continue to deploy Naloxone in the field. Over the past two years, officers have successfully administered Naloxone to individuals which assisted in the prevention of opioid overdose.
Galt’s newest Police Officers, Carlos Aguiar and Nicholas Kohler, will be introduced and sworn in before the City Council in a public ceremony at the September 3 City Council Meeting.
On September 14, Galt Police Department personnel will be present at the City’s Sesquicentennial Celebration providing traffic control and security.
2019 Street and Pedestrian Improvement Project
The contractor will start grinding streets down this week and paving them next week. Residents in the affected areas were notified by mail. Staff met with business owners and school district personnel to review the upcoming schedule. The webpage will be updated periodically during the construction phase.
Walnut Avenue and Elk Hills Drive Intersection
Construction is complete on the Americans with Disabilities Act ramps and installation of the permanent all-way stop controlled intersection at Walnut Avenue and Elk Hills Drive. Temporary traffic control signs will be removed this week.
Veranda at River Oaks
The Veranda at River Oaks development site at the corner of Carillion Boulevard and Walnut Avenue has been cleared and grading will be ongoing for the next two weeks. Sidewalk detours are in place and minor traffic control may occur.
The City of Galt and Vitalant are hosting a blood drive on Thursday, August 29 at the Littleton Community Center, 410 Civic Drive from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm. For more information call 209.366.7130 or email email@example.com.
PARKS AND RECREATION
Roundstone Park – Staff increased watering, replaced irrigation backflow device and replaced multiple broken sprinklers.
Meadowview / Harvey Park – Staff replaced multiple broken sprinklers on baseball field area and repaired valves.
Monterey Dog Park – Staff increased watering, replaced broken sprinklers and repaired faulty booster pump.
Staff has increased watering on all grass areas around Carillion and Walnut Avenue. Mowing will be increased to twice a month, alternating mows between Parks staff and Crossroads Landscape. Sports fields will be mowed every Thursday instead of Monday to accommodate weekend games and tournaments. Staff continues to make watering adjustments and repairs as needed to all landscape areas and parks.
City Tots Preschool registration fees are currently being accepted for the upcoming school year. Orientation for City Tots is scheduled for Monday, October 28 and Tuesday, October 29 at River Oaks Elementary School, Classroom 31, 905 Vintage Oak Avenue. Letters were mailed to families with detailed information regarding orientation time for enrolled students. Classes will begin on Tuesday, September 3 and Wednesday, September 4.
