BI-WEEKLY REPORT - November 15, 2019
Galt’s sales tax receipts climbed approximately 10% above the same reporting period in 2018. This is indicative of recent commercial growth, especially for service stations. Business and industry posted 17% growth year over year, another sign of strength in the sector which is amplified by recent submittals for expansion of existing facilities. Measure R also posted increases as compared to the same quarter last year. Overall, California posted gains of 20.4% as compared to the same quarter last year. Notes of a softening for most taxable categories is present as customers take refuge from new autos with a spike in used car sales, and generally opted for lower priced restaurant options during the quarter. Online sales outpaced traditional brick and mortar (fixed site) sales continuing an established trend. Brick and mortar (fixed site) sales increases were primarily limited to value priced apparel, discount department stores and jewelry. Gains in business-industrial sales and use tax revenues were largely from online fulfillment centers, logistics and utility company purchases and information technology investments. See attached flyer.
