PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
In California, all used household batteries are considered hazardous waste and must be recycled with an authorized household hazardous waste facility, a universal waste handler, or authorized recycling facility. A bin has been installed at the Galt Police Department, 455 Industrial Drive, for convenience and an easy way for Galt residents to dispose of household batteries. No automotive or motorcycle batteries are allowed. Please make sure all batteries are taken out of any storage bags before disposing. The bin was purchased with a grant from CalRecycle. Staff is looking into placing a second bin on the northeast side of town.
The City recently completed the purchase of a 50,400 square foot industrial warehouse building for the purpose of a transit operations and maintenance facility. This purchase was authorized by the City Council on December 17, 2019. The City is utilizing State grant funds which were awarded to the City by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, along with other State transit funds the City receives. No City funds were used for this property purchase. This facility meets the City’s current and foreseeable needs and will provide some additional revenue to the City from leases of the other spaces in the building.
