Sacramento County Health Officer Issues Enforceable Health Order Requiring
County Residents to Shelter-in-Place Effective 11:59 PM Thursday, March 19, 2020
Today at 11:00 a.m. the Sacramento County Health Officer, Dr. Olivia Kasirye, issued a mandatory and enforceable legal shelter-in-place order applicable to all residents and businesses within the County, with limited exceptions. The county-wide Health Order becomes effective at 11:59 PM on Thursday, March 19, 2020. The Health Order will remain in effect until April 7, 2020, unless revised.
The order seeks to reduce exposure of the COVID-19 virus within the county and especially for at risk populations, including persons over 65 and persons with underlying health conditions. The Sacramento County District Attorney noted that it is everyone’s moral responsibility to take action to obey the order immediately to limit the spread of COVID-19.
This morning, in protection of our local community, the City elevated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to Level 2 status to support the Sacramento County EOC and to coordinate any necessary services to the residents of Galt. The City is monitoring the ongoing pandemic and will support activities of the County and State in responding to the health crisis.
The City requests that all residents and businesses obey the applicable provisions Health Order issued today. Galt Mayor Paul Sandhu indicated that it is important that “we not panic, but remain calm, obey the county’s health order and stay at home during the period of the shelter-in-place order.”
