Mandatory Commercial Recycling:
In an effort to divert waste in California and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as of July 1, 2012, AB341 requires all California businesses and public entities that generate more than four cubic yards or more of trash per week and all multifamily complexes of 5 or more units, regardless of service level, to have a recycling program in place. According to the 2008 Statewide Waste Characterization data, the commercial sector generates nearly three fourths of the solid waste in California. To comply with AB341, the City of Galt implemented a Mandatory Commercial Recycling plan to educate its commercial sector about this mandate and monitor their compliance with it. To help promote recycling, the City’s solid waste service hauler California Waste Recovery Systems provides recycling bins for local businesses. For more information, please contact California Waste Recovery Systems at 209-369-6887, www.cal-waste.com or contact Public Works at 209-366-7260.

Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling
AB 1826 Chesbrow(Chapter 727, Statutes of 2014) requires business to recycle organic waste. Please visit Cal Recycle’s website for more details on how to comply. https://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/recycle/commercial/organics/
The City of Galt places a high priority on providing excellent solid waste and recycling services to the community. The City achieves these goals through the award of an exclusive solid waste franchise. The award of an exclusive franchise guarantees that all residents receive reliable collection services at a reasonable rate by requiring minimum performance standards as conditions of the franchise. The franchise also ensures strict adherence to all environmental requirements and City ordinances. Currently, California Waste Recovery (Cal Waste) holds the Solid Waste Collection franchise for the City of Galt. A variety of solid waste container sizes are available to suit everyone’s needs and budget.
The City of Galt also has a comprehensive recycling program. All single-family residences are provided with a standard 64 gallon co-mingled recycling cart and a 64 gallon yard waste cart. Additional recycling and yard waste carts are available at no additional cost. Larger 96 gallon carts are also available at no additional cost. To order additional carts or increase cart sizes, please contact the City of Galt at 209-366-7150.
Currently, residents may recycle glass, tin, aluminum foil and trays, most plastics, newspaper, mixed paper, aluminum cans, cardboard and green waste. Recycling and yard waste carts are collected on alternating weeks on the same day that solid waste is collected.

Countless rolls and remnants of carpet are buried in California landfills every year, where it stays for centuries without breaking down. Recycling carpet can help save natural resources, conserve landfill space, and improve our environment. Old carpet can be recycled and made into new and useful products like traffic signs, insulation, new carpet, and carpet padding. In 2010, California passed a Carpet Stewardship law to reduce the amount of carpet that is taken to landfills. Please click the link below for more information about how to recycle your used carpet.
