State law requires a general law city, like Galt, to have a city clerk. The position may be elected or appointed. The city clerk is elected every four years as provided by state law. 

Government Code Section 40801-40814:

1. The city clerk records the minutes of City Council meetings; and
2. Executes resolutions and ordinances; and
3. Is the custodian of the city seal.

Elected Position:
The Galt City Clerk position is a part-time elected position with a four-year term with no term limits.
